Your initial impression on entering The Mountain House will be of a zen-like stillness, a sense of airy calm inspired by a lofty ceiling, picture windows, a restful colour scheme and understated furnishings.

Clerestory windows in the main living area provide tantalising glimpses of the dramatic mountainside above.

Built to impact lightly upon the environment, The Mountain House’s carbon footprint is minimal, due in no small part to its rainwater collection system and solar heating.

The bedroom, with its queen size bed, ample cupboards and dressing table, is entered by a delicate sliding screen, and the theme of unusual portals is continued in the glass panelled door that separates it from the luxurious en-suite bathroom – the glass itself was fused around stalks of restios, an indigenous Cape reed growing in the garden.

There is a seamless flow from the living area, via sliding folding doors, to a balau timber deck designed to take full advantage of the spectacular Clovelly sunsets that make sundowners time of day at The Mountain House extra special.
